NASA's historic space station mission is launched by SpaceX with astronauts from Crew-5

First space launch by Russia from the US in 20 years For the first time ever

Today (Oct. 5) at noon EDT (1600 GMT), a Falcon 9 rocket carrying the four Crew-5 astronauts launched from the famed Launch Pad 39A here at NASA's Kennedy Space Center

beginning a nearly 29-hour voyage to the orbiting lab.

These four astronauts are Russian cosmonaut Anna Kikina, NASA's Nicole Mann and Josh Cassada, and Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata. 

Mann became the first Native American woman to travel to the last frontier with today's launch

and Kikina became the first Russian to travel on an American private spacecraft.

The crew of SpaceX Five is prepared for a historic mission.
